fourth of july cocktail with spodee

Fourth of July is hands-down my favorite holiday. It almost always involves summer sun, being close to the water, fireworks, friends and family, and delicious food.

Oh, and of course, libations are typically present as well ;) With the help of one of my favorite drinks around, Spodee, I whipped up a delicious summer Fourth of July cocktail for everyone’s weekend celebrations.

Spodee Summer Cocktail

  • Blueberries
  • Peaches (I used white peaches, but any peach will do)
  • Spodee White
  • Ginger Beer

Simply combine the ingredients and enjoy! With fruit, I find it’s best to let it sit for a few hours, so I suggest making this early in the day or the night before. Spodee White has the yummiest hint of coconut and pineapple, so it’s my favorite for summer time.

You can find out where to buy Spodee here, and check out my other yummy Spodee concoction.

Are you a Spodee fan??

healthy milkshake

My mama has the biggest “chocolate” tooth of anyone I know. Like clockwork, after every supper, she would say “what’s for dessert!” And it almost always was chocolate.

I really don’t even have a very big sweet tooth (I’m a salty kinda girl), but she managed to get this routine stuck in my blood where I crave something sweet at the end of the day. I’ve been  searching for something to satisfy these cravings that doesn’t completely kill my bikini bod. For months, I was on this huge milkshake kick, and oh my goodness, Josh has the most amazing milkshake recipe from his grandfather, but I was quickly turning into a piggy.

So after some experimenting with a different combinations, I finally figured out a ‘healthy’ milkshake that I don’t regret the next day while putting on my jeans. I say ‘healthy’ with quotes because I’m not actually a nutritionist and the healthy option would probably be to get over my sweet cravings in the first place. Alas, I have zero self-control, but at least I know this is better than old fashioned ice cream and 1/2 cup of chocolate syrup.

If you ever cook or bake any recipe I share on here, you know they’re always easy and this one is no different. It literally takes 2 minutes to make with the help of a Magic Bullet (or similar blender). Maybe it’s too easy since sometimes I find myself making seconds. Whoops!

Healthy Milkshake Recipe

  • 1 cup almond or coconut milk (I go back and forth depending on what I’m craving, but usually I lean towards almond milk. It makes it a bit thicker than coconut milk.)
  • 1 tbsp of cocoa powder
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • sprinkle of cinnamon
  • optional ingredients: frozen strawberries, chia seeds, coconut oil

Step 1: Combine all ingredients into blender

Step 2: Blend

Step 3: Chug

See, I told you it was easy! This should be called ‘healthy’ milkshake for the lazy ;)

As for the optional ingredients, sometimes I use them, sometimes I don’t. If I’m craving something extra sweet, I’ll add the strawberries. I usually put chia seeds and coconut oil in my morning smoothie, but if I don’t, they’ll make it into my night time milkshake.

I really recommend using frozen fruit, but I’d be lying if I said I always do. If I don’t have frozen fruit on hand, I’ll either add ice or just drink it like a chocolate milk vs a milkshake. Just as good ;)

So what are your healthy dessert treats? Any others I should know about?

fridays are for margaritas

Fridays are pretty great and deserve celebrations. Summer Fridays deserve parades and specialty cocktails and feasts in their honor. My contribution to said hooplah? The best and only margarita recipe you’ll ever need.

Not all margaritas are created equal. I try to avoid the super sweet mixes. My favorite NY friend, Erin, always orders her margaritas with ZERO sour mix, which essentially is lime juice and tequila. She’s brave. Brand of tequila is everything. I learned quickly freshman year of college that drinking cheap tequila never ever ends well. I am shuddering writing the words “cheap tequila.” Jose Cuervo is my go-to tequila every time, it was the first tequila after all. It’s smooth, it’s tasty, and it doesn’t leave you with regrets Sunday morning. Okay, that’s debatable. ;) I’m a big fan of Jose Cuervo Tradicional Silver-it’s 100% agave tequila, and oh so perfect for my margaritas.

So here it is folks. The margarita recipe that will turn your already amazing summer friday into the summer friday of all  summer fridays (or your manic monday into an acceptable day of the week).

As you’re enjoying your best-ever-summer-Friday, download the Jose Cuervo augmented reality app. You might say, isn’t drinking tequila on it’s own an augmented reality app? And I’ll say yes, but the Jose Cuervo History in a Bottle app is pretty darn cool. The video below introduces the app, but essentially you can point the app to your Tradicional bottle and see it come to life. If you’re four margaritas in, this might get trippy folks.

Pretty cool right? And you can be the coolest kid at your memorial day weekend parties and spew out trivia know one else knows like “Did you know Jose Cuervo invented the margarita (the most important invention ever obviously)??”

So check out the app, watch the video, and pour yourself a margarita or 3 because it’s only the beginning of summer fridays. Drink up friends! peach-margs-jose-cuervo

This post was sponsored by Jose Cuervo in celebration of Jose’s 219 year history, however my love for tequila, margaritas, and Jose Cuervo is completely on my own accord. Many thanks for supporting the wonderful sponsors who help this blog out. Without them, how would we know what to put in our margaritas??

game night double date

game night.jpg

While Josh and I are staying with my sister and her fiancé for the next three weeks, it’s actually really great having company with another couple. We don’t typically get the opportunity to carve out time for double dates, but living here, they come naturally considering all we need to do is walk to the kitchen :) Personally, I believe there are two requirements to a good double date night: card games and delicious snacks.

Josh handled the card games (he undoubtedly knows them all), and I picked up my new favorite treat: popchips. So while J explained the rules to Spades and President, we munched.

popchips are those kind of chips that you go for when you’re craving the worst (Doritos, Nachos, everything bad), but then you realize what you’re eating is better than all of that terrible stuff in the first place. They’re healthy, they’re crisp, and oh my goodness they are just so good. The four of us tore through a bag in less than 10 minutes. Lucky for us, they just introduced their 15% more to love bags-aka 15% more in every bag. Completely worth it when you go through a bag as quickly as we do.

It really is the most casual evenings that turn out to be the most memorable to be. Good food, good people, and good, simple entertainment.

So now it’s your turn to tell your popchips love story for a chance to win a pop-worthy date night. Hop on over to popchips to enter-there are 6(!) weekly (!!) drawings for a date night prize pack, but just enter in, and you’ll receive a popchips coupon.  Sharing the love with everyone :)

This post was sponsored by popchips, however all my thoughts, opinions, and satisfied cravings are my own :)

greek yogurt taste off

Greek Yogurt is my go-to healthy treat. I add it to my smoothies, I mix it with granola, or I’ll just grab a cup and eat it plain. I’ve never really settled on a favorite flavor or brand, so when Yoplait reached out to me to have a taste test between Yoplait Greek 100 Strawberry yogurt and Chobani Simply 100 Strawberry, I jumped at the opportunity.

Since I love Greek Yogurt in so many forms, I knew it would only be fair if I tried out each brand plain, with granola, and in my morning smoothie.

Up first, I tried the yogurt plain. One brand was noticeably sweeter, but in a natural way (not the diet coke way). Greek Yogurt can tend to be a bit bitter, so I was pleasantly surprised by this.

Next, I added my favorite Bear Naked granola to each brand yogurt. They were both pretty similar with the Bear Naked added on. I swear that granola compliments every brand and flavor :)

The ultimate test was in my morning smoothie recipe. I blended together spinach, almond milk, greek yogurt, strawberries, banana, and chia seeds. Oh my goodness, there was a clear winner here. One brand was so much smoother than the other, I slurped it up so quick!

So who was my favorite brand?

Yoplait Greek Yogurt

Not going to lie, I totally thought I was going to side with Chobani at the end of this challenge. They seem to be “the brand” in the Greek Yogurt category, but Yoplait got me hooked.

Now that that’s settled, I would love to find out your two cents! Find out how you can have your own Greek Yogurt #TasteOff

And while you’re at it, tell me who your winner is!

In full disclosure, Yoplait reached out to me to conduct this taste-off challenge, however all thoughts and opinions are my own. They encouraged me to share my favorite brand, regardless of who I chose :)
